PennIDEAS: Innovation and Discovery in Engineering, Arts & Sciences

Join Steven Fluharty, Dean of Penn Arts & Sciences and Thomas S. Gates, Jr. Professor of Psychology, Pharmacology, and Neuroscience, Vijay Kumar, Nemirovsky Family Dean of Penn Engineering and Professor of Mechanical Engineering and Applied Mechanics, and faculty experts as we explore discoveries and ideas at the crux of technology and society.

From new processes that produce cleaner energy to new materials that reduce our carbon footprint, technological innovations offer a pathway to sustainability. At the same time, political and social forces sometimes advance, and sometimes impede the application of new solutions. Our panel of faculty experts will provide their insights on the opportunities and challenges of balancing nature and the human habitat.

Daniel Aldana Cohen, Assistant Professor of Sociology
Karen Goldberg, Vagelos Professor of Energy Research
Shu Yang, Professor of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering; Materials Science and Engineering

Hosted by University Trustee and Penn Arts & Sciences Advisor Ramanan Raghavendran, ENG’89, W’89, LPS’13.
