Joseph Francisco

Joseph Francisco, President's Distinguished Professor of Earth and Environmental Science, has been elected to the Leopoldina, which originated in 1652 as a classical scholarly society and now has 1,600 members from almost all branches of science. In 2008, the Leopoldina was appointed as the German National Academy of Sciences.

Research in Francisco's laboratory focuses on basic studies in spectroscopy, kinetics, and photochemistry of novel transient species in the gas phase, in aerosol, and at the ice-quasi liquid layer. These species play an important role in atmospheric processes. Over his distinguished career, Francisco has served as the President of both the American Chemical Society and the National Organization for the Advancement of Black Chemists & Chemical Engineering.
