Steve Viscelli, Associate Professor of Practice, Named to Department of Transportation Task Force

Steve Viscelli

Steve Viscelli, Associate Professor of Practice in the Department of Sociology, was named by Secretary of Transportation Pete Buttigieg to the Truck Leasing Task Force of the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration. The task force will investigate predatory leasing practices in the trucking industry, practices Viscelli had documented in his 2016 book, The Big Rig: Trucking and the Decline of the American Dream.

The Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act mandated the nine-member task force, which Secretary Buttigieg will oversee. The appointment for Viscelli, who is also a Kleinman Center for Energy Policy faculty fellow, will last two years.
