Arts & Sciences Students, Faculty, and Staff Receive Sachs Grants for Arts Innovation

2024 Sachs Grants for Arts Innovation

Twenty-seven projects involving people and programs in Penn Arts & Sciences have received 2024 Sachs Program for Arts Innovation grants. They include 13 grants for teaching art, including first-year seminars such as Doing Research, Laughter and Tricky Topics, and Black Queer Traditions. Other grants to support making and presenting art range from Hearing Women’s Voices, awarded to the Daedaleus Quartet in the Department of Music, to student projects like Illuminating Unhoused Patients’ Healthcare Experiences through Photography, awarded to Neha Shetty, C'24.

The Sachs Program for Arts Innovation supports innovative arts activities throughout the University of Pennsylvania community, providing funding to Penn faculty, staff, students, departments, programs, and centers. Their vision is that the arts at Penn are valued and embraced as a creative catalyst, driving innovation, inspiration, and action.

The announcement of the grants stated, “The proposals received represent the vast range of creative practices and areas of exploration by students, faculty, staff, artists, and community partners. … We are incredibly proud of the 2024 Sachs Program Grant Award recipients. They represent a broad portfolio of creative expression and practices and respond to and center a diverse range of ideas, communities, and directives.”
