Biology Professor Michael Lampson Named Searle Scholar

Assistant Professor of Biology Michael A. Lampson is among the 15 scientists named Searle Scholars in 2008. The Searle Scholars Program makes grants to selected universities and research centers to support the independent research of exceptional young faculty in the biomedical sciences and chemistry. This year, the Searle Scholars Program's Scientific Advisory Board considered 176 applications from recently appointed assistant professors, nominated by 120 universities and research institutions. Lampson’s research, focused on cell division and intracellular signaling, will receive $300,000 during the next three years.

Lampson received his bachelor's degree in physics from Harvard University in 1994 and his doctorate in physiology and biophysics from the Weill Cornell Graduate School of Medical Sciences in 2002. He joined the Penn faculty in 2007, after four years as a postdoctoral fellow at Rockefeller University.
