Social Networks: Get Visible or Vanish
Social networks are nothing new. Today, however, digital social networks affect how we teach, conduct research, discover new ideas, find collaborators, publish findings – and how those findings reach our peers and the public. Academic networks and social media are beginning to replace the old paradigm of "publish or perish" with "get visible or vanish." In short, social media shifting is the paradigm. An "invisible university" is emerging.
Networks can provide benefits that go beyond the individual by offering inclusion for marginalized groups and fostering a culture of openness. They can fill a gap where institutions are failing, safeguarding collaboration.
