Taussia Boadi, C’24, and Cheryl Nnadi, C’24, Honored as Projects for Progress Winners

For the past four years, the University of Pennsylvania has awarded funds to pilot projects that will “advance our aim of a more inclusive society” and “offer new ideas to enhance the quality of life for members of our Philadelphia community now and in the future.” Two College seniors—Taussia Boadi and Cheryl Nnadi—were part of the 2023 cohort of Projects for Progress winners, announced in May 2023. They were honored at a celebration in January.
 
Boadi and Nnadi, along with Ariane Thomas, director of the Professional Counseling Program in Penn’s Graduate School of Education, received the $100,000 award for Positioned for Success. The initiative provides academic support and enrichment, high school preparation, and mentoring services to middle school students in Philadelphia in the child welfare system who have been affected by gun violence and/or parental incarceration.
 
Two other projects were funded as part of the 2023 cohort: The Breathing Room,  a wellness space for youth at Sayre High School, and United Community Clinic, which has been working to address and combat disparities in accessing care for minority and immigrant populations.
