Tyshawn Sorey Finalist for 2023 Pulitzer Prize

Tyshawn Sorey, Presidential Assistant Professor of Music, was a finalist in the 2023 Pulitzer Prizes, announced on May 8. He was nominated in the Music category for his work, Monochromatic Light (Afterlife), described by the Pulitzer committee as “an exquisitely crafted composition that balances density with fragile detail using chords and singing, particularly a strong bass voice, a masterful blend of sound, and contemplative silence.” Monochromatic Light (Afterlife) premiered in February 2022 at the Rothko Chapel in Houston, Texas.
