Zahra Fakhraai Elected 2024 American Physical Society Fellow

Zahra Fakhraai

Professor of Chemistry Zahra Fakhraai has been elected as a 2024 fellow of the American Physical Society. She was honored in the Division of Polymer Physics for “innovative experiments that advance the fundamental understanding of polymer thin films, nanoconfinement, and amyloid aggregation.”

APS Fellowship recognizes members for their “outstanding efforts to advancing physics” via “exceptional original research and publication, significant innovative contributions in the application of physics to science and technology, remarkable advancements in the teaching of physics, and exemplary service and participation in APS activities.” Each year, no more than one half of one percent of the Society membership is recognized by their peers for election to Fellow of the American Physical Society.

Fakhraai studies the behavior of materials on surfaces, interfaces, and small-length scales to understand their properties in such technological applications as organic electronics. The knowledge gained from her group’s fundamental focus is applied to create novel materials for capturing solar energy. In addition, the Fakhraai group designs and synthesizes gold nanoparticles for various applications, including solar energy storage.
