In a given year, more than 2000 Master’s and PhD students can be found conducting advanced research, teaching and learning in Penn’s Graduate Division in the School of Arts and Sciences. Graduate students from around the world and the nation come to Penn to study with our distinguished faculty and take advantage of our exceptional laboratories, archives, libraries, museums, and research institutes. The Graduate Division of SAS oversees more than 30 PhD-granting programs, and several research master’s programs. Students enroll with a graduate group rather than with a department. Graduate groups consist of faculty members who have affiliations in many different departments. This system fosters collaboration among faculty and graduate students across departmental boundaries and promotes interdisciplinary education. In the thriving urban environment of Philadelphia, Penn graduate students nurture their intellectual passions, pioneer new discoveries, and engage with the local and global communities.
In my research, I explore the intersection of race, desire, and power. Penn gives me the resources to not only learn about these subjects, but also produce interesting new knowledge about them.
