SAS Faculty Working Group

Multidisciplinary groups formed for to investigate important new areas of knowledge or new approaches to traditional disciplines. Ordinarily activities include an ongoing seminar and colloquia with speakers from Penn and outside.

Up to $5,000 for one year, with possibility to renew for a second year.

SAS Making a Difference in Global Communities

Faculty teams must include at least one standing faculty member in SAS. Faculty are encouraged to work across academic disciplines.

To support multidisciplinary global projects led by faculty teams working with students to address societal challenges  internationally.

Klein Family Social Justice Grants 

A SAS standing faculty member must serve as the project lead. To address inequities in race, gender, sexual identity, socioeconomic mobility, education, health care, political representation, as well as the grand challenges of climate change, poverty, and immigration. Up to $50,000 Varies

Provost’s Interdisciplinary Arts Fund

 

Major events, projects, or programs that engage a diverse range of students and bring together multiple groups, especially collaborations among Penn art and culture organizations and academic departments or centers

Wolf Humanities Center Faculty Fellowships

Standing faculty at Penn in the humanities and allied departments.

Fellowships support research that relates to the Center's annual theme.

$5000 research fund stipends for junior faculty, and up to $10,000 for senior faculty, payable to departments for one course offset.

MindCORE Activity Fund

Any organization or University entity that meets the goals of the fund, but must be co-signed by a MindCORE affiliated faculty member. Individuals may also apply.

Grants to support initiatives and activities that build and enhance the mind & brain community at Penn, and foster new collaborations, education, or outreach through conferences, seminars, events or other group activities.

Penn Undergraduate Research Mentoring Program (PURM)

Standing faculty in all disciplines. Preference for those who have not yet had a PURM award.

Funding for one or two students to work with a faculty mentor on a summer research project.

PURM students receive $4,500 stipend, faculty member receives $1,000 research fund.

Summer Undergraduate Research Group Grants (SURGG)

At least one team member must be a standing faculty member

Financial support for a faculty member or team of faculty members to offer an intensive, interdisciplinary summer research experience for a group of 2-5 undergraduates

All undergraduate participants will receive a $4000 stipend and the mentor(s) will collectively receive up to $10,000 for associated research expenses

Grants for Faculty Members Mentoring Undergraduate Research

Standing faculty with a demonstrated commitment to mentoring undergraduates doing research.

Grants will provide funds that may be used to offset expenses to support undergraduates doing research or for any other expenditure necessary to facilitate the faculty members continued support of undergraduate research.

up to $8000 to offset research associated expenses incurred by an undergraduate student.

Team Grants for Interdisciplinary Activities Priority given to applications submitted by interdisciplinary teams of faculty members (ie spanning different fields, departments, and/or schools). Support for a team of faculty members to offer an intensive, interdisciplinary 10-week summer research experience for at least two and up to five Penn undergraduates.   All undergraduate participants will receive a $4500 award and the mentor(s) will collectively receive up to $10,000 for associated research expenses. Jumpstart for Juniors Program

Students who are new to research and require a summer of intensive training with a faculty member prior to undertaking a more independent project are strongly encouraged to apply.

Awards for a research project in the summer between a student’s junior and senior years.

Student budgets of up to $1000 will be considered. Mentors of Junior Jumpstart grant recipients will receive $1000 that will be paid into the faculty member’s research account.
